SUPPORTERS of asylum seeker Matt Rahmati spoke of their disappointment today after he was refused permission to fly back to England.

The 22-year-old mechanic was due to arrive at Heathrow Airport at 5.30am on a flight from India but was told late last night he could not leave the country.

Immigration officials claimed this was because he had not registered his presence in the country, something Matt says he was unaware he had to do.

This resulted in him being fined, as well as having to pay extra to reschedule his flight, which he was hoping to board late tonight.

Tanya Barroso, 20, of Victoria Street, Ipswich, was philosophical about today's development.

She said: “I know never to get my hopes up and I prepare myself for things like this happening.

”But Matt was so excited at the thought of coming home and now he feels deflated.”

Her mother, Karen, added: “I'm disappointed. We had been looking forward to him coming home this morning and now we've got another hurdle.

“It just seems every time we think we're getting somewhere we have another hurdle to overcome.”

Karen said Matt's fines amounted to around £100
