BIRTHDAY girl May Diggle is getting used to putting on her party hat as she has just celebrated her 102nd birthday.The level-headed centenarian puts down her long life secrets to enjoying herself with her relatives and she is convinced that her unflappable nature has also helped.
BIRTHDAY girl May Diggle is getting used to putting on her party hat as she has just celebrated her 102nd birthday.
The level-headed centenarian puts down her long life secrets to enjoying herself with her relatives and she is convinced that her unflappable nature has also helped.
Born in Nottingham Annie "May" was the oldest of six children and at the age of 13 went to work in a lace factory in the city.
When she was 24 she married her sweetheart Harold who worked at a brewery and who was later taken prisoner during World War Two. She was widowed 31 years ago.
She moved to Ipswich to be nearer their daughters, Doris and Mona in 1983.
May said: "I do like to enjoy myself but in a quiet way. I have a lovely family and I used to like dancing and singing."
She moved from the Evelyn Fison home in Stowmarket two years ago to Sidegate Lane home for elderly people in Ipswich where she celebrated her birthday with friends and family around her.
