The youngsters will take to the pitch at 10.30am on Saturday to commemorate the 14-year-old's life with a match at Copleston High School, where he was a pupil.

The friendly, which falls on the anniversary of Alex's death, has been organised by the East Side Football Club under 16s and will also involve parents and teachers.

Gillian Dunnett, secretary of the football club, said: "A lot of the guys who play for the East Side Football Club go to Copleston School and thought this would be a nice gesture, because on Saturday it will be a year since he died.

"The boys organised it all off their own backs. I think it is absolutely brilliant.

"They still remember Alex and speak about him all the time."

Alex died when crossing Foxhall Road. He was hit by with two cars.
