RISING model Becki Pearson is today calling on the people of Ipswich to text her towards national fame.

RISING model Becki Pearson is today calling on the people of Ipswich to text her towards national fame.

The stunning 20-year-old, of Copleston Road, Ipswich, is preparing for the biggest event of her career after reaching the finals of Miss Black Britain.

And she has been backed go all the way by Ipswich Town footballer-turned-model Fabian Wilnis.

Each of the 30 contestants in the grand final, which takes place on November 22 in London, has been given a text number - and the two who receive the most votes will be fast-tracked through the first round of the competition.

Miss Pearson, a part-time model, said: “I really want to do this not only to prove it to myself but to prove to other women that you haven't got to conform to a certain size or look to succeed. I would be grateful for all the support I can get.”

Mr Wilnis, who now plays for Grays Athletic in Essex, recently ventured into modelling and has joined Miss Pearson's agency, ModelGateway.net, to get his career off the ground.

The 38-year-old said: “I am really pleased to be able to support Becki's bid to become Miss Black Britain 2008.

“I know that she has the talent to win and I am hoping that we can get her the text votes she needs to bring the crown back to Ipswich.

“I was asked if I would like to try modelling by a few photographers and in football I am used to being in front of the camera, so I thought I would give it a go.

“I am still amazed I am doing it, but everyone has been really supportive so I am continuing to enjoy it as my schedule allows.”

Miss Pearson, who works as a beauty therapist at Martlesham Leisure Centre, out-modelled more than 4,000 rivals to reach the final of the competition, which is a showcase of talent for young black women and a possible platform for global success.

The Miss Black Britain organisation claims its live events are a dynamic fusion of fashion, dance and music, while celebrating the richness of black culture and beauty.

To vote for Miss Pearson, text MISSBB Becki to 82085. Texts cost £1 and the deadline for votes is November 22. For more information about Miss Black Britain, visit www.missblackbritain.co.uk.
