More overnight closures on the A12 have been announced for repair work set to finish this month.

The westbound A12 will be closed overnight between junctions 33 and 31 on Wednesday next week, a Highways England spokesman said.

On Thursday and Friday, the eastbound A12 will be closed overnight between junctions 31 and 33. A diversion route will be in place directing road users to travel via the A14, A137, A133 and A1232.

Contractors are resurfacing the carriageway and renewing road markings, repairing barriers and drainage systems and improving lighting within these works.

Work is being carried out every night between 9pm and 6am and at weekends between 9pm and 8am.

Last week, highway bosses responsible for the three-month delayed A12 roadworks pledged to learn from their mistakes to prevent future “frustrating” disruption.

Work to repair the A12 between Ipswich and the Essex border, which is covered by 40mph speed limit, began in December and was originally due to finish in March.

But Highways England have twice pushed back the completion date, insisting the £5 million scheme will finish at the end of June.
