A SUFFOLK MP was today due to meet top health bosses at the House of Commons in an attempt to save an under threat accident and emergency department.David Ruffley, MP for Bury St Edmunds, was meeting with the East of England Strategic Health Authority (SHA) in the wake of a review of acute services at West Suffolk Hospital.

David Ruffley, MP for Bury St Edmunds, was meeting with the East of England Strategic Health Authority (SHA) in the wake of a review of acute services at West Suffolk Hospital.
It follows a campaign led by Mr Ruffley to save the A&E, which saw a petition in Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket collect more than 1,500 signatures of support for the department in two hours.
Mr Ruffley said: “I want to discuss the SHA's current review of acute services and how it could adversely affect the people of Suffolk.
“This review could pose a threat to 24 hour Accident and Emergency cover at the West Suffolk Hospital and this must not be allowed to happen.
“I will be opposing any salami slicing cuts to the A&E and the West Suffolk Hospital.
“I would encourage members of the public to sign my online petition to keep our local accident and emergency department open.”
In November, Mr Ruffley arranged for the leader of the opposition, David Cameron, to visit the hospital and see the works which goes on at the A&E.
