Sir Thomas's review recommended that 390 MPs repay a total of �1.3 million. Almost �800,000 has been repaid since April last year, it said.

The appeals process overseen by former judge Sir Paul Kennedy cut the repayments demanded by �185,000 to a total of �1.12 million, according to the report.

The highest single repayment will be made by Barbara Follett, Minister for the East of England, who will repay �42,458.

In this region, Bernard Jenkin and John Gummer faced the largest repayment bills.
