A MAN has appeared in court today charged with the murder of a Suffolk man.

Tony Holland, of Broadlands, Desborough, Northamptonshire, appeared before Judge John Devaux at Ipswich Crown Court.

Holland, who appeared via video link from HMP Peterborough where he is being held on remand, is accused of stabbing 20-year-old William O'Connor to death at the rear of a pub in Bury St Edmunds on 27 April.

Mr O'Connor died from knife wounds, including one to the heart, and was declared dead on arrival at hospital despite the efforts of doctors at the scene.

Holland was later arrested in Northamptonshire and was formally charged with a single count of murder on May 4.

Holland, who was wearing a white t-shirt during the hearing, did not enter a plea and spoke only to confirm his name.

He is next scheduled to appear at court on August 10 for a plea and case management hearing.
