From murder mystery events and storytelling to sports and bug hunting – half term in Ipswich is set to be alive with activity whether it rains or shines.
On Thursday, Christchurch Mansion will be transformed into the spooky setting of a gruesome murder mystery event for children, where the young detectives will have to put their deduction skills to the test and find out who murdered Lady Catherine Killigrew.
For those looking for an outdoors event, Chantry Park will be hosting a free mammal detectives morning from 10am where Ipswich’s hedgehog officer Ali North will be helping youngsters spot the trails of hedgehogs, voles and mice, as well as trace their footprints and find out about their food stores.
History buffs can enjoy the Walking with Angels tour around town where town guides will be educating families on the sites linked to Thomas Wolsey and the Tudors, setting off from 10am on Wednesday.
Two drop-in events have been lined up during the week at the museums.
Ipswich Museum has joined up with the Teapot Project for the Mammoth Eco Event between 11am and 3pm on Tuesday, where children can make a home for mini-beasts and find out about 2,000-year-old bread.
Then on Wednesday, Ipswich Art Gallery has laid on an Upcycle! event where you can turn rubbish to riches by creating toys, plant pots and rugs among other items from 11am to 3pm.
As usual, Whitton, Northgate and Gainsborough sports centres have activities including squash, rollerskating and bouncy play.
Bryony Rudkin, deputy leader of Ipswich Borough Council, said: “This half-term holiday sees a big range of activities on offer for everyone – so children can’t complain about being bored! We hope to welcome youngsters – and their families - from all over the town and county to our sports facilities, museums and parks.”
In Kesgrave, the mobile skatepark will return to Cedarwood Primary School on Friday across three sessions – 10am-12pm and 1-3pm for primary school children and 4-6pm for secondary school youngsters.
The free sessions will be run by trained volunteers, with children able to bring their own helmets and boards or use those from the town council. Email the town council here to book a place.
