IN JUST two weeks time, Suffolk's music scene will have a huge boost with a new website called www.lovemusic24.co.uk.

Launched by The Evening Star and our sister paper The East Anglian Daily Times the site will be dedicated to what is happening on the music scene in Suffolk and to those involved in it.

And to kick off that website, a free all day launch gig is being held at The Steamboat Tavern in Ipswich on June 20 from 4pm.

Today we begin a series of profiles of the bands who are playing that day and who are an example of the great musical talent in the county.

First to be featured is Crab Meat Moon:

Who's who?

Nikk - 21 Bass Guitar and Vocals

Si - 24 Drums and Vocals

Fil - 21 Guitar and Vocals

Where are you all from?

Nikk - East Bergholt

Si - East Bergholt

Fil - Ipswich

So how did you get together?

Nikk and Fil have been in many bands in the past, the main one being PurpleFear and after it split up a few years ago, experienced drummer Si, suggested forming a new band and we jumped at the chance, in the understanding that the band would be called Crab Meat Moon.

After the first practice we became aware that the songs were just writing themselves and the tripod was born.

How do you describe your music?

Our music is a bit Funk, a bit Rock/Grunge and very, very silly, but not in a novelty band way.

What inspires the band?

Having a great time at band practices, and the love of different but cool music i.e. - Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Faith No More, Primus, Blur.

Where are you gigging at the moment?

The Steamboat in Ipswich, The Twist in Colchester, Headlining a Red Nose charity gig at the Rose and Crown in Ipswich, The Swan in Ipswich, Trimley Music Day (July 4 ), Headlining Pram Race Day in East Bergholt.

And anywhere and everywhere

What are your ambitions for the band?

To take it as far as we possibly can, and not give up. And to invent a new boundary for normal social conduct!

Why do you love music?

We love music because it's better than football and is an escape from everyday life.

It's awesome to be able to write songs how you want to hear them and love every piece of music we have written.

We hope to inspire others to form bands and have a great time.

What sort of music are you all into?

Fil - InMe

Jimmy Hendrix

Joe Satriani

Steve Vai

Nikk - Beastie Boys

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Faith No More
