IPSWICH'S urban renaissance was due to come under the spotlight tomorrow at a special one-day conference on housing in the town.

Representatives of local authorities, businesses and government officials were due at Ipswich Town's Galleria to hear about changes in the town.

The £350 million Waterfront renaissance, the Ipswich Village phenomenon,

Ravenswood and a university campus in the centre of town are all due to come under the spotlight.

"Housing & Regeneration in Ipswich" will also give delegates the chance to tour some of Ipswich's newest landmarks to see the urban revolution for themselves.

The conference is aimed at business leaders across the country and at the

people shaping the future of the East of England region.

Ipswich council leaders claim the past decade has seen urban regeneration in Ipswich on a scale unmatched by anywhere else in the region and that the revolution is continuing.

The dramatic changes on the Waterfront, the new green community of Ravenswood, IP-City and the fast emerging civic quarter in the Village are giving Ipswich a strong case for becoming the new regional capital.

The conference is also to address the issue of the need for more homes in Ipswich and will include a social housing perspective.

There are fears that with an increasing emphasis on high-quality homes in the waterfront and town centre area, people working in relatively low-paid jobs locally will find it increasing difficult to get their first step on the property ladder.
