TWO Suffolk towns have new mayors today after historic ceremonies.
Richard Risebrow was installed as the new mayor of Ipswich – two years after he was to have become the town's first citizen.
And in Felixstowe, Malcolm Minns became mayor for the second time in three years.
Mr Risebrow had been mayor-elect in 2000, but lost his seat on the council in that year's elections.
Last year he returned to Civic Centre, and now he's been confirmed as mayor until next May.
He received the formal robes from outgoing mayor Maureen Carrington-Brown at the annual council meeting in Ipswich Corn Exchange.
Four charities will benefit from his fundraising efforts over the next year:
Ipswich Salvation Army Community Service Fund.
Suffolk Accident Rescue Service.
Bobby Robson's Jubilee Appeal for Ipswich Hospital to buy equipment to treat people who have suffered from facial cancer.
And the Alderson Trust which runs community projects in the area.
Mr Minns, who was elected to Felixstowe town council at a by-election in 1992, also served as mayor three years ago.
He has been involved in many local issues and was a key member of the Save the Bartlet Hospital campaign.
He is very keen on sport and was part of the team that set up Brackenbury Sports Centre at Felixstowe, and has been involved with the town's hockey club.
