BUSINESS leaders have today announced they are launching a new 'credit crunch' package to help local firms combat the economic downturn.

Suffolk Chamber of Commerce has pledged to support the Evening Star's Fightback campaign to help local businesses battle the current climate.

The package will give independent firms practical support in marketing, cutting utility costs, legal advice, discounted business insurance, business to business trading opportunities and exporting to help boost business.

Suffolk Chamber spokeswoman Donna Johnston said: “Suffolk Chamber applauds the Evening Star's 'Fight Back' campaign, and Suffolk Chamber is well aware of businesses in Suffolk who are trading well during the global economic turndown.”

The new initiative will also see the launch of a business to business trading platform, funded by Suffolk County Council, to provide a one-stop shop for trading opportunities.

It will act as a means for businesses to find new leads and opportunities as well as helping the business community improve supply chains for both buyers and sellers.

John Dugmore, chief executive of Suffolk Chamber said the new project will support local businesses and help them ride out the difficult economic climate.

“Suffolk Chamber is here to support businesses through all economic climates, but during the current downturn the Chamber is working even harder to ensure that businesses utilise all the help and services that are available to them.

“The credit crunch package pulls together our key services to help businesses improve competitiveness and efficiency, but more importantly it will also highlight where savings can be made and where the opportunities are.”
