ROAD safety measures have come into force near two Suffolk villages today with the switching on of two new speed cameras.The cameras have been installed at the junction of the A140 and B1078 at Coddenham and the A12/A1094 junction at Benhall.
ROAD safety measures have come into force near two Suffolk villages today with the switching on of two new speed cameras.
The cameras have been installed at the junction of the A140 and B1078 at Coddenham and the A12/A1094 junction at Benhall.
Both sites were identified as priority accident sites by Suffolk County Council and a 50 mph speed limit will now be enforced at both locations.
The camera at Coddenham was officially switched on this morning by executive committee member Peter Monk.
He said: "We have been looking at ways to improve safety at these junctions. These cameras will be brightly coloured to encourage drivers to slow down.
"It is important that we work closely with Suffolk Constabulary to target speed enforcement at locations where there is a history of accidents."
During the past five years, one person has died and 25 people have been injured in collisions at the Coddenham site, while 35 people have been injured at the Benhall junction.
In addition to the new cameras and speed limits on the A140 there will also be a gap closure and a ban on turning right from the B1078 onto the carriageway toward Norwich.
Resurfacing work will take place on the northbound carriageway and a crossing point for National Cycle Route 51 will also be created.
