PLAYWRIGHT Harold Pinter has died from cancer, it was revealed today.The Nobel Prize winner was 78 and had been ill for some time.He was best known for his plays The Birthday Party, The Caretaker, and Betrayal and was a leading member of the younger generation of British playwrights which shook up the theatre in the 1950s and 1960s.

He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2005.
