A NORFOLK police sergeant is in custody today and suspended from duty following four charges including assault and harassment.Mark Murphy, 39, has been charged with failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis, common assault against a named person, possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed object in a public place, harassment against a named person, putting them in fear of violence and possessing ammunition for a firearm without a certificate.

Mark Murphy, 39, has been charged with failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis, common assault against a named person, possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed object in a public place, harassment against a named person, putting them in fear of violence and possessing ammunition for a firearm without a certificate.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Norwich Magistrates' Court tomorrow morning.

A Norfolk police spokesman said: “We can confirm that a Norfolk officer has been charged with a number of offences and is remanded in custody pending a preliminary court hearing. The offences do not relate to his role as a police officer.

“The officer is currently suspended from duty pending the outcome of criminal and disciplinary proceedings. It would be inappropriate to comment further while proceedings remain active.”
