It is a case of belt and braces for drivers in the London area of Ipswich this week.
A barricade has been put up to prevent motorists pulling into Stevenson Road from London Road while works are ongoing midway down the residential street.
But neighbours have pointed out that the blockade is pointless - because you cannot turn into the street from this end anyway.
The National Grid Gas workers who set up the roadworks and closure failed to spot that the road in only open to one-way traffic, meaning they only need to put up barriers at the other end of the works.
Work started on Stevenson Road at the beginning of the week, and National Grid Gas have applied for the closure until September 1 – although the work could be completed before then.
A local resident described the work as “very annoying” but for those who are unfamiliar with the area, the signs could prove confusing as well as irritating.
