Aspiring dancers from East Anglia are being offered the chance to appear alongside the stars in the Christmas pantomime at Ipswich’s Regent Theatre.

Magician Paul Daniels will head the cast in Aladdin and promoters Enchanted Entertainment want local dancers aged eight and over to join the show. An open audition is being held on Sunday at the Regent.

Producer Jezz Weatherall said: “We’re looking for local performers with dance experience and a strong jazz technique to be our dancers in Aladdin.”

The show will be at the Regent from December 19-30 and features a live band as well as a host of top TV stars, including Paul Daniels, Debbie McGee, singing star and X-Factor runner-up Andy Abraham, Disney Channel presenter Samantha Dorrance, CBBC’s M.I. High star Chris Stanton and Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist Andrew Fleming.

Director Guy Pascall said: “We’ve got a dazzling show lined up full of magical illusions with Paul Daniels bringing his unique talents to this year’s panto. Audiences are in for a visual treat, with a flying carpet, a magic lamp, a wizard and the most outrageous Genie. There’s also the love story between Aladdin and Princess Jasmine, as well as side-splitting comedy routines, high-octane dance numbers and the most talented pantomime cast in the country.”

Children aged eight to 11 need to register at 9.30am for a 10am audition, 12-15 year olds sign in at 12.30pm for a 1pm start, and those aged 16 and over can register at 3.30pm for a 4pm slot. There is no upper age limit.

All those auditioning need to bring appropriate clothing and footwear on the day and also be available to rehearse every Sunday during November and December as well as for the pantomime itself.
