DOZENS of lorries are being diverted off the A14 at Felixstowe today as Operation Stack has been put in place.

The vehicles are being moved on to the old A45 as part of Operation Stack, which is the system for dealing with lorries which cannot get into the port. It was put in place at 3pm today due to high winds.

It is too dangerous for quayside cranes to unload ships in winds over 45mph and as there is not always room for the lorries to park at the port when they arrive, the system was created to ease congestion.

A Suffolk Police spokesman said: “Operation Stack is in place due to high winds. The build-up of traffic is moderate rather than severe.”
