Andrew Pettitt, 51, pleaded guilty to four charges of indecently assaulting his victim and a further four counts of making indecent photographs of children.
Pettitt, of Brooksfield, Bildeston, was sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court today to three and a half years but will only serve half that sentence.
The charges relating to the indecent assault of the girl were committed by Pettitt 20 years ago, while the charges of possessing 50 indecent images of children date back to May last year.
