Please bring back Cardinal Thomas Wolsey’s hat!
That is the plea from a knitting group after thieves targeted a street art display in Ipswich town centre.
On Sunday the Cardinal Wolsey statue in St Peter’s Street and the area surrounding it, known as The Saints, was “yarn bombed” by a set of knitters after 10 weeks of planning and creating.
But when group leader Sue Newbery went to admire the exhibition this morning, she discovered that the Cardinal’s woolly hat and two bollard coverings – one depicting a lighthouse and another with a seaside theme – were gone.
“I was just gutted, disappointed and really sad,” said Ms Newbery. “We would dearly love to have them back.”
The crochet was safely attached to the street furniture by cable ties, so the culprits would have had to use a knife or scissors to free it.
If anyone has the items, they can be dropped off at the EADT and Ipswich Star offices in Lower Brook Street, and Ms Newbery said the issue would be taken no further.
