TWO vandals who destroyed a colourful flower display within sight of Ipswich police station have today been branded “mindless”.

The brazen pair were spotted by a CCTV operator at 3am today as they attacked the flower display outside the AXA building on Civic Drive.

Police went to the scene and saw the two men, both aged 20, ripping out flowers and throwing them on to the ground.

Both men admitted causing the damage and were given fixed penalty notices of £80 each.

A Suffolk Police spokeswoman today condemned the pair for destroying the flowers.

“People have put a lot of effort into planting and maintaining the displays like this and people often don't realise the effort that goes into maintaining them.

“To commit that kind of damage is just mindless and pointless.”

Flowers were still strewn across the pavement this morning and the yobs had even put a police safety cone at the top of the planter box.
