POLICE are trying to trace a mystery man who made a turned up at a Martlesham house and asked to search the property

The man called at a house in Top Street at around 4.55pm on Friday March 19 where he engaged the owner of the house, a woman in her thirties, in conversation. He gained entry to the house by saying he wanted to look upstairs to see if he could find possessions of a relative who previously lived there.

The woman realised the relative could not have lived in the house at the time stated and told him to try at another address. The man then left, but ran off in the opposite direction.

He is described as white, around 20 years old, about 6ft tall, of thin, lanky build, with short cropped hair under a light coloured baseball cap and wearing a grey 'Puffa style waist length jacket and similar coloured trousers.

A police spokesman said: "There may be a perfectly innocent explanation for the incident but we would ask the man to get in touch. Anyone who thinks they might know him or who has experienced a similar incident in this area should call us as soon as possible."
