POLICE today urged people to ignore a scam email which tries to get them to part with cash by saying someone has been hired to kill them.

Since 9.30am officers have received six calls from people in Suffolk who have been sent the scam emails.

On each occasion the victim has received a message in which the sender says he has been paid to kill him.

The email goes on to say a 'friend' wants him dead, that he is not to contact the police and makes threats about his family.

The email then goes onto say that he can pay to have his life spared and requests a large sum of money.

Police investigated a similar email sent to an individual last year and a number of similar scam emails have been reported nationwide.

The email is believed to have originated in Nigeria.

Officers advise that you do not reply to the email in any way.
