POLICE were today sifting through evidence gleaned from anniversary checks carried out a week after a serious assault and an attempted rape in Ipswich.
Early yesterday morning officers from Ipswich CID stopped motorists and pedestrians in Milner Street and Grove Lane in a bid for information about the two attacks.
A 47-year-old woman was attacked at knifepoint in Milner Street in the early hours of Sunday, January 29 and was left in need of hospital treatment.
Police spoke to 196 people in the area between 11.30pm on Saturday and 1.15am the following day.
They spoke to another 106 near to where a 21-year-old man was assaulted with a stick on the same morning in Grove Lane.
