POP band McFly are to perform in Ipswich, it has been announced today.

The group - which has strong Suffolk links - will play the town's Regent theatre on May 3 as part of the band's Up Close…But This Time It's Personal UK wide tour.

Regent manager David Mansfield said: “We are delighted to welcome McFly back to the Regent. They are a hugely talented and popular band and we are expecting a sell-out show.”

The 14 date tour will take the band to theatre-sized venues in all corners of the country, including stops at the Manchester Apollo, Edinburgh Corn Exchange and London's HMV Apollo in Hammersmith.

American Idol runner-up David Archuleta is the special guest on all dates.

A spokesman for promoters SJM Concerts said: “Well accustomed to huge audiences in arenas around the world, McFly savour the rare opportunity to thank their most loyal fans at smaller shows.

“In 2006, the boys embarked on their Up Close and Personal theatre tour, which saw dates selling out in less than two hours.

“The shows proved so enjoyable for the band and their fans that a sequel was only a matter of time.”

Tickets for the show will go on sale at 9am on Saturday February 28 and are available from the Regent Box Office on 01473 433100.
