MORE than 2,000 customers in Ipswich were affected by a power cut this afternoon.

A high voltage underground cable fault caused the momentary lapse of power for 2,269 customers, including the Evening Star and East Anglian Daily Times offices in Lower Brook Street at 4.43pm.

A minute later the majority of those affected had their power restored but currently five customers are still without power.

A spokeswoman for EDF Energy said an engineer was on route to check the problem and apologised for any inconvenience caused.
