AN INVESTIGATION has been launched into the death of a three-year-old boy who was found in a garden pond.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident shortly before 11am yesterday after the boy was discovered in a pond in Crown Lane, Coney Weston, near Bury St Edmunds.
He was rushed from the village to West Suffolk Hospital but last night police confirmed the youngster had died.
A Suffolk police spokesman said: “As is standard procedure in these circumstances police have attended the property and are carrying out a thorough investigation to establish what happened.
“The death is being treated as unexplained and being referred to the coroner and a post mortem will be conducted in due course.”
Neighbour Reg Jay said there had been a major police presence during the morning and a scientific unit present during the afternoon.
A spokesman for East Anglian Air Ambulance said they were called to the village home and found a young boy in a garden pond.
The spokesman added: “We sent the air ambulance while there was also a road ambulance which took the boy to hospital.”
