Pub set to make way for four new homes

Another Ipswich pub is set for demolition if councillors agree to a bid to knock down the Garland on Humber Doucy Lane.

The pub closed in February this year and planning officers from the borough are recommending that members of the council’s planning and development committee give permission for its demolition and replacement.

The proposal is that it should be replaced by four detached houses, all facing on to Humber Doucy Lane on the edge of the town.

Since the pub closed earlier this year it has been used as a double glazing showroom – which means that it is no longer considered to be a community facility gaining special protection.

There have been no objections from local residents to the proposal to knock down the building and replace it with homes – and the officers say the proposed design of the new homes would be in character with other homes in the area.

The proposal is due to be discussed by the committee at its meeting next Wednesday.

The report says: “The proposed four houses on this site would be appropriate in principle, and would be compatible with the surrounding prevailing residential character.

“The proposals offer a good example of design and layout and would meet the necessary standards for internal and external space and car parking without having a harmful impact on neighbour amenity or highway safety.
