A 68-YEAR-OLD Quaker accused and cleared of emerging from bushes in a short pink skirt and blonde wig has had his appeal against further convictions thrown out.

Ipswich magistrates refused to dismiss a charge against arthritic Jeffery Wolfe- Emery after an earlier court cleared Wolfe-Emery of disorderly conduct when was alleged he was spotted in undergrowth in Valley Road wearing women's clothing.

But magistrates withheld a conviction, handed down in March, against the pensioner, of Pelican Close, for careless driving and failure to stop when required. He was given nine penalty points.

Wolfe-Emery took his appeal to Ipswich Crown Court in a bid to clear his name.

Magistrates had previously heard how a plain clothes police officer saw a "heavily built female with a bow legged walk" emerging from bushes.

A short time later, a man dressed in male clothing emerged from the same bushes before driving off down Valley Road towards Norwich Road mini roundabouts, overtaking without due care and attention.

Two further officers were called to the scene in a marked car but failed to stop the driver, later revealed as Wolfe Emery, as he swerved past them weaving his way down Valley Road.

He accelerated left into Anglesea Road crossing the other side of the road causing another driver to brake hard.

He stopped in Graham Road of his own accord.

Wolfe Emery claimed he thought the police were acting on an emergency call which didn't concern him.

He also said a recent hernia operation at Ipswich Hospital prevented him from breaking suddenly.

Andrew Shaw, prosecuting, said he was only asked to stop by police, not to stop suddenly.

Judge John Holt dismissed the appeal and said nine penalty points would stand

Wolfe-Emery first hit the headlines in 1986, claiming to have broken into a royal residence in Sandringham.
