A church which has been rescued from being derelict and transformed into a vibrant heritage and wellbeing centre has won a top award.
Quay Place – formerly St Mary at the Quay – underwent a multimillion-pound restoration, part funded by a £3.4m grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, and opened in October as a hub for wellbeing by hosting therapy sessions, activities and classes.
Now, Quay Place has won the Highly Commended award in the Historic Buildings category of the Civic Voice Design Awards 2017.
The prestigious prize was given at the awards ceremony in London on Friday night, where Rachel Barrett from the Churches Conservation Trust and Ipswich Society vice-chairman Tony Marsden accepted the award.
The building has been nominated for a National Lottery Award, which requires public votes to win a £5,000 grant.
