SUFFOLK was set for a soaking today as a blanket of rain clouds moved in - but a sunnier and warmer outlook was predicted for the rest of the week.

Up to an inch of rain could fall causing flooding in places, forecasters warned.

But by Thursday, the wet weather should be replaced with blue skies and unseasonably mild temperatures.

Evening Star weatherman Ken Blowers said: “An area of rain is coming into the county from the west.

“A small depression will form which will accentuate the rain, which will be persistent and at times heavy. By tomorrow there could be flooding in places.

“If we're unlucky, we could have an inch of rain.

“Tomorrow will be a bit cloudy, with some showers, but Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be bright with lots of sunshine.”

Today, temperatures will not rise much above 56F/13C, around the average for this time of year.

However, toward the end of the week, Suffolk will enjoy highs of around 62F/17C.

Mr Blowers said: “A new high pressure system will gradually cover the southern half of the UK.

“It will be nice for the time of year.”

He said temperatures had been above average throughout October, with very little rain.
