SUFFOLK Police have launched an investigation after a 38-year-old woman was raped in Newmarket.
As the woman was returning to her car on the top floor of the Rookery car park she became aware of a man standing by the stairwell.
The man spoke to the victim and then followed her to her car where he pulled her to the ground and raped her.
She was so traumatised by the attack that police were only officially informed of the incident, which took place around 5.30pm on January 10, yesterday evening.
Detective inspector Rick Munns said: "The victim is still deeply traumatised and has found it very difficult to speak about the attack. Specialist officers have been speaking with her and have only just been able to piece together what happened."
