RESIDENTS in flats above a parade of shops in Wivenhoe, Essex, were evacuated today after a fire broke out in one of the businesses.
The East of England Ambulance Service was called to Vine Parade after a call from the Fire Service at 5.24am reporting a possible explosion.
An ambulance and a rapid response car were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Paramedic, Nikki Brown, said: “When we arrived there was a fire in the Londis shop. The residents in the flats above had all been evacuated as a precaution by the fire service.
“We assessed a 61-year-old woman, who appeared to have some minor smoke inhalation but she was not serious and did not want to travel to hospital.
“There were between six and eight others from the flats. We checked all of them over but they were all fine.”
