Ribbon cut to officially open ‘labour of love’ garden project at disability charity in Ipswich

Staff and volunteers from the Papworth Trust invited disabled people and their families to open the garden at a ceremony at the Ipswich Centre in Foundation Street.

Project worker Ali Crush said: “The idea of a garden was originally mentioned about 10 years ago when some workshops were demolished and we had this space.

“We spoke with our customers and they all said they wanted a garden which could act as a relaxing space and somewhere we can hold gardening sessions, barbecues and arts and crafts.

“To finally have it open and looking so beautiful is a wonderful and very proud achievement. I would like to thank everyone who has supported this project, one that will be so valuable to the Ipswich Centre.”

A blue ribbon was cut to officially open the garden by two of the centre’s customers Glenn Turland and Tony Hales in recognition of their hard work and dedication to the project.

Ali said: “We thought about asking a dignitary but Glenn and Tony have helped with the garden in all weathers.

“They have both been amazing and we thought it was only right for them to officially open the garden.”

Businesses in the Ipswich area were also invited after supporting the project over the last few years.

Ian Seeley, associate at Pretty’s Solicitors, who organised a number of events for the charity, said: “Our staff always do so much for our chosen charities and it is lovely to see what we have been fundraising for.

“This is a lovely space and it is clearly going to be well-used by people at this centre.

“I genuinely wish this was my garden.”
