Roadworks on Wherstead Road are causing traffic delays in Ipswich this morning.

There are reports of tailbacks on the A137 and the B1456 towards Ipswich and very slow moving traffic on Wherstead Road itself.

The delays have been caused by roadworks, with two-way traffic lights, which are being undertaken by BT.

Although the work is set to be completed today, traffic issues are expected on Wherstead Road area of Ipswich during the morning and evening rush hours in the next few weeks as further works are scheduled to take place.

Between January 12 and 16, one lane of Wherstead Road will be closed as engineers access three underground chambers for desilting works.

Between January 15 and 17 there will be a full overnight road closure, from 7pm to 5am, of the B1456 The Strand.

Then between January 23 and February 5, BT are due to undertake cabling works on Vernon Street using temporary traffic lights.
