IPSWICH Town legend Sir Bobby Robson has told of the good news he has recently received in his battle against cancer.

The 75-year-old is fighting the illness for the fifth time and is currently undergoing a course of chemotherapy for a tumour in his lung.

Writing in his column for The Mail on Sunday he tells how his latest scan has shown that the growth has shrunk following treatment.

He also says how he sympathises and offers his support to golfer Seve Ballesteros, who was recently diagnosed with a brain tumour.

He said he had had enough health problems of his own to “sympathise strongly” with the Spaniard.

Sir Bobby wrote: “All I can say to Seve is to keep on fighting and everyone's prayers are with him. Every case is different, I know, but I'm still fighting 15 years after my first diagnosis.”

Sir Bobby enjoyed a 13-year spell in charge of Ipswich Town, leading the club to FA Cup and Uefa Cup glory.

He recently revealed that his cancer charity - The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation - had raised almost £800,000 and he hopes it will reach £1million by Christmas.
