A NEW recruitment drive to fill school crossing patrol vacancies in Suffolk will be launched next week. Suffolk County Council has joined forces with seven other local authorities in the eastern region to run a bus-back, display and poster campaign with the slogan, 'A little of your time can mean a lifetime for a child.

Suffolk County Council has joined forces with seven other local authorities in the eastern region to run a bus-back, display and poster campaign with the slogan, 'A little of your time can mean a lifetime for a child.'

Peter Monk, member of Suffolk County Council's executive committee, said: "We hope that by raising awareness of the vital role carried out by school crossing patrols in the community, we can encourage people to come forward and fill vacant positions. Being a school crossing patrol officers takes only a short time each day and can make crossing the road much safer for schoolchildren."

A telephone hotline has been set up to answer enquiries from anyone interested in becoming a school crossing patrol officer.
