WHATEVER happened to the flying salmon at Woolies?
When Woolworths opened its current store in Ipswich in November 1968, it sold just about everything - from food to clothing, to toys and household goods.
The food section was one of the first modern-style foodhalls, later seen in superstores across the area, and its centrepiece was an impressive fish counter with a flying salmon as the backdrop.
Water flushed down the front of the salmon drawing people to the counter - but this was taken out of the shop during the 1970s when the food hall was remodelled.
Where is the salmon today? Was it saved or did it just go into the back of a builder's skip when the store was changed?
