SGR FM has unveiled the team that will be the backbone of their first season providing exclusive match commentary for Ipswich Town home games.

The station, which has a three-year deal to cover all home and away matches, has signed up Town legend Mick Stockwell as their match pundit with Mark Scott, who currently works at Capital Radio in London, to serve as commentator.

SGR also confirmed two other signings for their match day team - Evening Star and Green Un chief sports writer Elvin King and Phil Ham, the editor of fanzine www.twtd.co.uk and an Evening Star columnist.

The pair will have a slot during the post match phone-in show on Saturdays to share their opinions and expertise on the club.

Mr Stockwell, who played more than 600 games for Town between 1981 and 2000, was named Supporters' Player of the Year in 1993 and also recently managed Woodbridge Town.

He said: “I'm delighted to be working with SGR FM on their full match commentary. Ipswich Town have always been my club, I had great times there and they still mean a lot to me.

“I'm really looking forward to covering all the games, giving my views of what is happening on the pitch and hopefully telling the story of a really successful season for the club.”

Mr Scott has spent the last few months covering events such as the Champions League Final from Moscow, and the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, for over 40 radio stations around the country.

Dan Thorpe, SGR FM's Programme Controller, said: “Mick Stockwell is an Ipswich Town legend and a great signing for SGR FM.

“I haven't told him this yet, but he was my favourite Town player growing up, and my dad, who used to take me to all the games, was very much a member of the Stockwell-for-England club!

“You could tell from the way he played that he loved Ipswich Town, and that passion for the club, as well as his undoubted expertise on the game, is why we're so excited to have him as part of our team.

“That passion for the club is also very strong in the other members of the team; no one knows or cares more about the club than Elvin or Phil, and in Mark we have an exceptional commentator to hold it all together.”

- The new team make their debut for the first match of the new season on August 9 for the visit of Preston. The exclusive commentary on SGR FM can be found on 96.4 and 97.1 FM.
