SUFFOLK'S tally of children on the at-risk register has increased by almost 20 per cent, it emerged today.

The number of vulnerable children currently named on the Child Protection Register has increased to as many as 415, according to the county's director of social care.

For years the number had remained around 350 but, on the day after the release of a full report into the abuse and death of Victoria Climbie, Anthony Douglas confirmed the latest figures.

Mr Douglas stressed that the county's social care team will now be looking particularly carefully at the recommendations proposed yesterday in the light of the Climbie inquiry.
