A SHOPKEEPER was tied up and robbed by a gunman as he closed up his Colchester store.
The victim was at the Happy Shopper in Russell Court off Stalin Road when he was approached by a man wearing a black balaclava and carrying a handgun.
The shop owner, aged in his thirties, was pulling down the shutters to close up at 9pm yesterday when the robber approached.
Police said the victim was forced back into the shop, tied up and a four figure sum of cash was stolen.
His van was also stolen in the raid and later found burnt out in Fingeringhoe Road, Colchester.
The shopkeeper was shocked by physically uninjured in the ordeal which ended when a passer-by heard his cries for help at about 10pm.
The robber was about 5ft 8ins tall, medium build, and wearing a long sleeved grey top.
He was believed to have had an accomplice but there is no description of them.
