PEOPLE interested in joining the Special Constabulary are being invited to an information evening at Suffolk police HQ on Monday .

The evening, from 7.30pm at Martlesham, will give people the opportunity to find out more about the becoming a volunteer with the police and what the job involves.

A police spokeswoman said: “Becoming a Special means you join a dedicated team of volunteers which help support Suffolk police's full-time officers in a range of duties.

“You will go out on uniformed patrols, meet new people, deal with incidents and assist in catching those responsible for committing crime. You could also help police big events such as the Suffolk Show, Lowestoft Air Festival and local carnivals and even go out on drugs warrants.”

Hundreds of people across the county give up a few hours each month working in the Specials, some joining to get a taste of police work before joining the force full-time while others see it as a good way to give something back to their community.

People come from all walks of life and backgrounds, must be 18 or over, in good health and of good character.
