But nothing could have stopped international mezzo-soprano, Carolyn Maia, agreeing to perform her latest concert – in the humble and historic surroundings of a village church in Debenham.
When she heard her granddaughter's school needed money to improve its facilities, she did not think twice before offering to fly in from America and help. Sophie Morgan is a pupil at Wetheringsett Primary school, near Stowmarket, which is raising money for the improvements.
Despite living in Seattle, Mrs Maia decided to hold a special concert in aid of her granddaughter's school.
Mrs Maia, who launched her operatic career at the Aldeburgh Festival in the 60s, will perform in Debenham Church on Friday, March 22 with fellow performers.
