Senior officers today said the campaign has focused on dealers of Class 'A' drugs and in particular crack cocaine dealers.

Chief Superintendent Geoff Munns, of Suffolk police, said: "Taking out drug dealers remains a top priority for local policing and is an essential element in driving down crime and improving our communities quality of life."

Detective Inspector Alan Caton, who is overseeing the operation, said: "These results are very encouraging. We are continuing to target people through accurate intelligence gathering.

"My message is simple – if people continue to deal drugs within the town, don't be surprised if my officers come knocking on your door.

"We will continue to target those people who deal in drugs and by doing so we hope to break the cycle of drug use, abuse and related crime at an early stage."

Suffolk Constabulary is an active member of Suffolk Drug Action Team (SDAT), which aims to work in partnership and focus on education, prevention, treatment, harm reduction and enforcement.

Carey Godfrey, SDAT co-ordinator, said: "The continuation of operation Crackdown Ipswich will undoubtedly disrupt the local drug markets as well as giving people the opportunity to address their drug problem either in the community or in prison."

Chief Superintendent Munns said that the operation aimed to bring communities together and help them "reject the drug culture".
