SUPPORTERS of a skate park bid in Needham Market today claimed money is no object to their dream.

They believe they could find the funds needed to build a facility in the town, but are being held back because no appropriate site can be found.

Although the Needham Market Skate Park Appeal believes Crowley Park would be the ideal location, the town council remains uncertain.

The council is currently awaiting replies to a questionnaire sent to around 300 residents in the area.

Josephine Lea, town clerk, said: "The skate park supporters seem to think Crowley Park is the ideal place but we're trying to get the views of the local people.

"When that is complete the town council will consider the issue of the site. The youngsters are very keen to get the park but you have to remember this is only a small proportion of the population.

"We're not anti these youngsters at all but we need to consider the whole town."

Around 35 of the supporters, including 25 youngsters, attended a recent council meeting to put forward their views.

Dawn Cudmore-Reid, one of those leading the appeal, said it is important the young people of the town are listened to.

She said: "People want the children off the streets, but if they want that they've got to provide somewhere for them to skateboard.

"These children play a big part in our community and they need to be provided for."

Mrs Cudmore-Reid said there is a growing frustration at the lack of action in finding a suitable site, especially as it seems money could be available to fund a park.

She said: "If all that's stopping us getting a skate park is finding a site then surely we must be able to come up with somewhere.

"We know we can get the money but we can't get any further until we get a site."

It is thought grants would be available from Mid Suffolk District Council, with developers of the town's Highlands estate also contributing.

The supporters are also willing to raise funds to help make it happen.
