UNSIGNED Ipswich band Underline the Sky are celebrating today after getting into Road to V final.

The five strong band have beaten hundreds of other hopefuls and have made it through to the final stage of the competition and as one of just six finalists.

The band is now one step closer to following in the footsteps of Ipswich-band Rosalita and becoming one of the two winning acts that will get to kick start the V Festival this summer, in Chelmsford and Stafford on August 22 and 23.

Underline the Sky formed a year ago and have played more than 150 shows and made it to the Top 20 of the MySpace music charts.

Lead singer, Bronwyn Cooper, said: “We were one of two bands in the semi-final that weren't chosen by the mentors, but by public votes. It was a lot of pressure!

“We knew we had to go above and beyond if we were going to impress.

“But if anything, it made us work that much harder, and we think he saw that. After how hard we've worked to get here, opening up V Festival would be a dream come true.”

There will be a public vote to decide which two acts will win the competition.

The band have given their backing to Ipswich's new music website lovemusic24.co.uk, run by The Evening Star and its sister paper The East Anglian Daily Times. They are due to perform at the lovemusic24 free launch party at The Steamboat Tavern in New Cut West, Ipswich, on June 20, the day the website will be launched.
