A SERVING soldier who carried out an “unpleasant” and “humiliating” attack on a barmaid has appeared in court.
Private Thomas Chadwick, a paratrooper, was out drinking in Colchester when a barmaid in The Silk Road told him they were not serving any more alcohol.
The 22-year-old then leaned over the bar and grabbed the woman's face before pulling her towards him, Colchester Magistrates' Court heard yesterday.
Chadwick, who served for six months in Afghanistan in 2008, had drunk more than he normally would and was “very apologetic and ashamed of his behaviour” on October 22, his solicitor said.
Chadwick of Manor Road, Haydock, St Helens, admitted one charge of assault and was fined 300, ordered to pay costs of 85, a 15 victim surcharge and 100 compensation.
