A SPORTS car stole the show at the Helmingham Hall festival of vintage and classic cars in aid of the Ipswich Children's Hospice.

Around 250 vehicles, ranging from a 1919 Renault from Malden to a 1990 Lamborghini Countach, were on display at the event organised by the Suffolk Vehicle Enthusiasts Club (SVEC), in conjunction with the Helmingham festival of classics.

Colin Whitmore,SVEC Club secretary said: "Owners of sports cars were invited to demonstrate their cars in action along the main driveway. The star was the Lamborghini, what a wonderful sight and sound it made."

Lord and Lady Tollemache were at Sunday's festival and chose a 1960 Jaguar XK150 as the car they would most like to own.

Owner of the car Ricky Parker was presented with an engraved crystal award.

Birds of prey, model aircraft displays, various stalls, and the Stowmarket Brass Band were also on hand for the crowd to enjoy.

A raffle raised more than £700 for the charity and was expected to top £1500 after all donations were collected.

Mr Whitmore added: "The day turned out to be a real family day out."
