Students and parents in Ipswich are encouraged to ‘Thank a Teacher’

With the new school year approaching fast a nationwide campaign is urging pupils to celebrate the teachers that support them.

The campaign to thank a teacher was created by the National College for Teaching and Leadership, its aim is to highlight the difference teachers make and show prospective recruits how rewarding the career can be.

Teachers work very hard for long hours to ensure pupils have everything they need in order to succeed - perhaps you have someone who you would like to thank.

To get involved with the scheme people are encouraged to tweet or post on Instagram their appreciation post.

You can include a photo with the teacher or just a general picture from your school days, just make sure you finish the post using the hashtag #thankateacher

Roger Pope, chairman of the National College for Teaching and Leadership, said:

“Teachers are the backbone of our education system and it’s why we’re always looking for people with the passion and potential to teach.

“Yet, teachers don’t always receive feedback from their pupils on what an important job we – as a profession –  do.

“I once received a card from a Year 11 boy who I worked with to help pass his GCSEs after he was warned he may be excluded from school.

“The card said ‘Thanks for your help – you changed my life’. That has always stayed with me. We hope this campaign will provide people with the opportunity to recall a time when a teacher inspired or supported them, and say a simple thank you.”
